Construction news London
Several London underground stations including Chancery Lane, Embankment and Baker Street are being upgraded as part of the £331 million stations upgrade programme. Mace, CH2M Hill and EC Harris have been chosen to be delivery partners to help put in place a new trial which aims to save up to 25% on the cost of the upgrade programme.
London Bridge station is also receiving an upgrade, worth £400 million. The station sees about 56 million passengers a year and is the fourth busiest in London. Once the development has been completed in 2018, the station will have a concourse large than the football pitch at Wembley Stadium, intending to create 66% more space for more passengers.
A 16 storey tower block in Archway, North London has been bought by Essential Living. The building will be home to flats for rent. Its increasingly harder for younger people to jump on the property ladder, so a range of affordable, new and stylish flats above transport links are in demand. The project is set to cost £30 million.
